Visit to Leinster House

Finnish Business Network Ireland and Swedish Chamber (Chair Paul Keane) members just had an excellent visit to Leinster House! We had an opportunity to have a guided tour of the national Parliament and enjoyed a lunch in their fantastic restaurant . We had an engaging meeting with Minister Roderick O’Gorman. He spoke passionately in favour of amendments to the constitution and outlined his priorities in the in the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.

Brexit Seminar
​
Brexit Seminar on 6/4 was the Club's main event in 2018. It was a joint effort with the Irish and Finnish Embassies, Irish Business Club in Finland, and the FBC. The Finnish Ambassador for Ireland Jaana Teckenberg kindly accommodated the event in her residence. Maeve Collins, The Irish Ambassador to Finland was also present and the and the first speaker of the Day was the Minister of State for European Affairs Helen McEntee followed up by an impressive list of speakers; Dr. David Duffy - IBEC, Anne Lannigan - Enterprise Ireland, Mark Kennedy - Mazars, Richard Redmond - Papertek, and Anton Scott -SoftCo.

Visit to European Foundation
​
2018 got a good start with a visit to the European Foundation. We heard the results of their latest research, and concluded that they are doing really fantastic work that benefits all EU countries.

Suomi 100 Years
​
Suomi100Ireland main event took place 18/11 at Filmbase in Templebar. During the all-day event the audience had an opportunity to hear presentations and to visit an exhibition. The evening event at Clayton Hotel was sold out and was a huge success. I’d like to thank all the hard working Committee Members, volunteers, speakers, and the audience for creating a wonderful Year for us all! We also received fantastic support from a good number of sponsors. The Club would like to thank all sponsors and everyone who helped in the fundraising efforts to make it a Year to remember.

14/4 Good Friday Golf
​
Easter got off to a good start on Good Friday morning with Richard Redmond's traditional golfing event at Castlewarden Golf course. This year the event focused on celebrating Finland's 100th anniversary of Independence.
Players from the Finnish Business Club, the Swedish Chamber of Commerce and many Irish friends had a great day.
The Club is very grateful to its sponsors, Laura Eklund - Red Earth at Beacon South Quarter, Edward Dillon – Finlandia Vodka, Donal Denham – Helsinki Dry Gin, and Papertech for their generous prizes.

Annual Budget Briefing Lunch @ Brooks Hotel in Dublin on Friday February 27th. Dr. David Duffy from ESRI gave us a talk about the recent Budget, and the underlying economic assumptions.
Manu Raivio, who is organizing Finnish stand up comedian Ismo Leikola's Dublin performance in mid-March, also gave a talk about the upcoming event.

Business Lunch 14th November 2014
Lieutenant Colonel Bernard Markey, from the Irish Defence Forces delivered a presentation about his recent 6 month’s deployment in Afghanistan. He has also recently spent 6 months in Lebanon, where the Irish Defence Forces are engaging in peacekeeping duties together with the Finnish Defence Forces.
Finnish Business Club & SCCI Visit to CRANN Institute, Trinity College on September 26th, 2014.
We were kindly invited to CRANN Institute by our member, Dr. Jussi Tuovinen, the Executive Director of the institute. CRANN Institute (the Centre for Research on Adaptive Nanostructures and Nanodevices) is the largest research institute in Trinity College Dublin. CRANN brings together over 300 researchers including 37 leading Investigators based across multiple disciplines including Trinity's Schools of Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Engineering and Pharmacology.
We'd like to thank Dr. Tuovinen for interesting presentations and the tour around!

Good Friday Golf
Many thanks to Richard Redmond for excellent arrangements and to Papertech for sponsoring the event! The event took place at Castlewarden
and 27 players enjoyed the most glorious weather and beautiful display of flora that only Irish countryside can offer.

Finnish Business Club Chairman, Business Consultant Teemu Saloranta was decorated with the Cross of Order of the Lion of Finland for his achievements and important work abroad. Teemu has been the Chairman of the Finnish Business Club in Ireland for many years and is actively involved with Irish-Finnish Society and Team Finland among others. He arrived in Ireland for the first time already in 1988.
The Grand Master in granting this highly honorable recognition is the President of Finland. Ambassador of Finland in Ireland, HE Hilkka Nenonen had the honor to deliver the honor to Teemu with her spouse Rainer Lahmann. The Committee and Members of Finnish Business Club would like to congratulate Teemu!
